The initial industrial application for the project will be on the use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD). For people involved in the design of aerodynamic surfaces such as aircraft wings, racing car bodies, gas turbine fan blades, windmills, sail design etc., Geodise offers a new dimension in an already complicated design process.

A key goal is to capture the CFD and design knowledge, until recently only available to a limited group of specialists, and make it available to a wider set of less experienced designers, as part of a problem solving environment (PSE).

Starting from an initial design produced on a conventional CAD workstation the GEODISE PSE will allow the designer to optimise the design, with an ongoing dialogue between the portal and the designer. The dialogue will enable mesh generation and CFD options and optimisation models to be selected based on the suggestions from the knowledge base.
